Back-ground information on the ministry of Evangelist
Michael J Thurmond
Born into a Christian home 1952 in Indianapolis, Indiana To
Joseph and Naomi Thurmond.
Attended Cadle Tabernacle in down town Indianapolis,
Indiana 1952-1962.
Attended Bartlett Chapel Methodist, Danville, Ind.; while
going to Avon Schools. Graduating High School in 1970.
Married Christine Butcher of Plainfield, Indiana, in 1973
We have one son, Zachary with his wife Autumn and my grand daughter's, Mackenzie and Madison!
Settled my Salvation on Thanksgiving night in 1973 at the age of 21 .
Baptized in 1974 at Bible Baptist, Bellville, Ind. under Bro. B. M. Page.
Called to preach in late 1974, with many generations of preachers in my mother’s family.
Sunday school teacher for Methodist teens and for Bible Baptist after membership there.
Youth worker Hope Baptist, Bro. Wilber Hurt, Indianapolis. 1976.
Youth worker in Pleasant Grove Baptist, Trenton, Ga. Bro. A.C. Durham 1977-1980,
Attended Tennessee Temple University, 1976-1980 under Dr. Lee Roberson and Dr. Bruce Lackey
Received Th G. degree from Bible college in 1979; Received B.R.E degree in 1980, Tennessee Temple University
Received M.A. degree in 1988, and Doctor of Divinity degree in 1999 from Heritage Baptist University, Dr Russel Dennis, Sr.
Professor at Heritage Baptist University, in Greenwood, Ind. , 1987-2003.
Pastoring 24 years in Hendricks, Morgan, and Clark counties of Indiana.
Ordained a preacher and called to Pastor 1980- 82, Paragon Bible Baptist, Paragon, Ind.
Pastor , New Life Baptist, Brooklyn, Ind. 1983-92
Pastor, First Baptist, Lizton, IN. 1992-2000
Pastor, Bible Baptist Church ( became Crossroads Baptist, Now Mount Zion Baptist), Sellersburg, Ind. 2000-03..
Full time missionary- evangelist since June 1st of 2003.
I am beginning into my 20th year with a new love and appreciation for the office of New Testament Evangelist!
Blue River Baptist Church in Edinburgh, IN is now my sending church since 2014 and Pastor Justin Surface had been overseeing my ministry.
NOTE:
My plans are to be in Philippines April 2023 and India again in November 2023. as God provides.
I am praying and preparing for Christine and I to go to Japan if possible in 2023.
We put approximately 50K business miles a year on my car traveling for this ministry.
